Autumnal Wedding Celebrations

This sweet couple met in Australia back in 2012 when Rebecca was living in Sydney but travelling through Queensland at the same time that Tom happened to be on holiday in Brisbane visiting friends and family.

They ended up on the same camping tour to Fraser Island and after chatting with a few drinks around the camp fire and dancing on tables, the couple never left each other’s side. After a 3.5 year relationship, the couple took a trip to New York which turned out to be life-changing for both of them. Rebecca and Tom had taken a helicopter ride over the city and were walking along the Hudson River when Tom bent down on one knee and proposed. It was an unforgettable moment. The following 2 years and 7 months were busy for the couple, as not only were they planning their dream wedding, but they also welcomed a baby girl!

Finding a Wedding Venue

Rebecca and Tom knew that they wanted to get married somewhere very special and had started their search for the perfect wedding venue around the Hertfordshire area.

They visited several different styles of wedding venue, but nothing blew them away like Notley Abbey. The couple both love an open fire, good food, old architecture and their favourite season is Autumn. Notley Abbey offered it all; from its historical roots to the character, style and beauty. Plus, having seen the tree-lined driveway as they approached the venue, they could only imagine how incredible it could be during the Autumn months. The couple booked an October wedding date, giving them enough time to plan and prepare for a future together with their new baby.

Autumnal Wedding Flowers and Venue Decorations

“Our floral arrangements took my breath away” said Rebecca, who worked with unique florists, Hiding in the City. The couple didn’t want anything traditional – they wanted whimsical, romantic, autumnal and chic; Hiding in the City got it spot on.

The bridal party bouquets were wild and asymmetrical, comprising of dark florals and pops of peach featuring a mix of roses and a variety of foliage. The stems were left naked and were tied by peach satin ribbon. The bridesmaids carried slightly smaller but matching bouquets and the groomsmen had a mix of dark and light floral buttonholes which also matched the bouquets.

For the reception tables the florist created overflowing arrangements in small-footed urns. Tea light candles in shimmer holders and large decorative pomegranates pulled the autumnal look together. The mantle pieces throughout the wedding venue were decorated with trailing florals, candles, hurricane lanterns and moss. Notley Abbey looked incredible and felt uber cosy during the evening when the fires were all lit.

The Big Day: Saturday 27th October, 2018

82 guests witnessed Rebecca and Tom marry in The Abbot’s Hall at Notley Abbey at 2pm on Saturday 27th October, 2018.

Lanterns and beautiful floral arrangements decorated the intimate space and a guitarist played during the entrance of the bridal party and the departure of the new Mr & Mrs.

After toasting their marriage with Mulled Cider and Kir Royale, the couple and their guests entered The Monks’ Refectory and were presented with a delicious three course menu, pre-chosen by the bride and groom when they attended a menu tasting at Notley Abbey several months before their big day.

The couple’s semi-naked wedding cake, designed by The Oxford Cake Company, stood three tiers tall and was decorated with autumnal fresh fruit and foliage. The red velvet flavoured wedding cake was cut up and distributed to guests throughout the evening – except the top tier which was taken home by the couple to enjoy in the future.

Wedding reception tables followed a gin theme and guests were given Gin & Tonic flavored popcorn as wedding favours. Rebecca and Tom hired the Harper Sweetie Cart to feature along side an evening buffet of mini burgers and bacon butties, and a band called The Distractions brought the evening reception party to life. The newlywed’s first dance song was ‘The Only Reason’ by JP Cooper – the couple play this album at home and the words meant so much to them both. The dance floor remained full throughout the night; there was a limbo, dancing on shoulders, conga trains, break dancing and a dance off! Picture Blast Photo Booth was also a great addition to evening celebrations at Notley Abbey.

The couple’s most memorable part of the wedding was the first glimpse of each other walking down the aisle, and when they walked in to The Monks’ Refectory as husband and wife. However, another extremely memorable party of the wedding, was when the couple kick-started their evening celebrations with their guests by watching the most incredible fireworks display, put on by Harper Partner Pyromania Displays. The newlyweds huddled under the smallest umbrella watching the fireworks as their guests gazed in awe behind them. They couldn’t stop laughing at the madness – it was crazy and magical, like a romcom movie.

The following morning guests gathered for breakfast with the bride and groom, who were also celebrating another very special occasion – their daughters 1st birthday. It was the ultimate way to end what had been the most special of occasions at Notley Abbey.
