Rebecca and Peter’s Wedding at Botleys Mansion

Proposal in Iceland

Rebecca and Peter met in a pub and dated seriously for 7 years before planning a special trip to Iceland.

Peter proposed at an observatory overlooking Reykjavik one evening and popped the question with a ring he’d chosen from Hatton Garden. Having previously asked Rebecca’s mother for her daughter’s hand in marriage, Peter knew that he was free to propose at the moment he felt was right.

After announcing their engagement, the couple searched for wedding venues and set a date for 18 months down the line – the perfect amount of planning time in their eyes.

Choosing a Mansion Wedding Venue

Rebecca and Peter knew they wanted to celebrate their wedding ceremony with around 100 guests, and invite a further 20 in the evening, so they needed a wedding venue with a good sized capacity to work with their needs throughout the day. The couple turned to wedding planning website hitched.co.uk in order to help them find a dream wedding venue and after visiting a shortlist of 4 in the Surrey area, the couple chose a date and put a deposit down at Botleys Mansion for a prime Friday in July.

“There is just something so elegant about Botleys and we fell in love with it the moment we came in and saw it in the distance as we drove in. We were also very fond of Cain Manor, but decided in the end that Botleys was our venue!” said the couple.

When it came to using the planning tool provided by Harper Weddings, Rebecca and Peter found it very useful. Not only was it so handy to log on at any point and update, but it was super easy to use and the couple loved the seating plan feature.

Perfect in Pronovias

To make absolutely sure she was comfortable with her wedding dress decision, Rebecca tried on no less than 30 wedding dresses. Being 5ft 1”, Rebecca wanted a gown to complement her height and decided against a big princess style wedding dress design. The assistant at With Love Bridal in New Eltham picked out a mermaid style with Bardot sleeves from the Pronovias range. Rebecca tried the gown on and fell in love with the lace beauty.

As soon as Rebecca and Peter got engaged the bride-to-be knew what kind of wedding shoes she wanted to wear – way before she chose the dress. They had to be a pair of blue Manolo Blahniks – the kind Carrie Bradshaw wore down the aisle and the ultimate ‘something blue’.

Hair and make up artist Melissa Oldridge Bridal styled Rebecca’s hair in big bouncy curls – perfect for her personality and natural every-day style.

Rebecca chose seven lucky bridesmaids and had one flower girl. Everyone wore dresses from ASOS after having browsed online for their favourite styles. The long gowns were a beautiful dusky pink shade and featured pretty detail on the shoulders.

Fine Wedding Flowers

Gabi Burton from The Fine Flowers Company worked with Rebecca and Peter to create dream floral displays throughout Botleys Mansion. Roses were the main flower used in the array of displays, in ivory, pale blush and nude hues. The bridesmaids carried a slightly smaller version of Rebecca’s bouquet, and a collection of tall and short centrepieces were created for the wedding ceremony and aisle, which were later moved on to wedding reception tables.

The Big Day: Friday 20th July, 2018

When Rebecca and Peter were visiting Botleys Mansion, Rebecca took one look at the stairs leading down to The Atrium and realised that she wanted to walk down them in to her wedding ceremony.

The stairs have the true wow-factor and the setting was absolutely perfect for a summer celebration. The couple booked a registrar for 2pm and the bride walked down the stairs with her step-dad and was then joined by her mother to walk her down the rest of the aisle. They walked to the sounds of ‘You’ve got the love’ by Florence and the Machine, played by Quattro Strings – string quartet.

One of the bridesmaids, Laura, did a wonderful reading throughout the ceremony and as the weather was so perfect on the sunny July Friday, gusts were able to celebrate the couple’s marriage outside and around the grounds of Botleys Mansion once they had been pronounced husband and wife.

At 4:15pm after fizz and a selection of nibbles guests were called back in to The Atrium, which had been transformed in to the most beautiful setting for the wedding banquet.

Reception tables were numbered and guests were each given a bottle opener in the shape of a key and everyone enjoyed red Merlot and white Sauvignon Blanc glasses of La Croix during the sumptuous wedding breakfast.

Tea, coffee and truffles were enjoyed after the wedding banquet and the Harper DJ set up for an all-night party. 20 evening guests arrived around 7pm just in time to witness the cutting of the Krispy Kreme donut wedding cake at 7:25pm. As Rebecca isn’t a huge fan of cake, the couple thought they’d break tradition and opt for something a little different when it came to the wedding cake.

The couple danced their first dance to ‘Feel the Love’ by Rudimental which started off as an acoustic version but then went in to a full blown dance version about a minute in so that guests could head on to the dance floor and join the newlywed couple. The partying didn’t stop until 2am.

Instead of a traditional gift list, the couple set up a honeymoon fund to help contribute to their dream honeymoon to The Maldives. And, when asked to give planning advice to future wedding planning couples, Rebecca and Peter said: “Don’t stress the little things, enjoy every moment, and definitely have a sweetheart table – it really gave us a great opportunity to enjoy our first meal together whilst looking out at all of our guests.”
