A Traditional Wedding at Cain Manor for Julia and Adam

Julia and Adam met during their final year at Cardiff University and were together for 7 years before Adam decided to plan an unforgettable proposal for his future bride.

Whilst on a wonderful trip to Las Vegas the couple had booked an excursion to Grand Canyon, via helicopter. Adam’s careful planning ensured that his proposal was delivered perfectly, not forgetting Julia’s dream solitaire engagement ring to seal the deal. The couple spent the following 18 months planning their traditional wedding at Cain Manor.

Wedding Planning

Julia spotted Cain Manor on the back of a wedding magazine shortly after their engagement and the couple knew that they simply must pay the venue a visit. The couple saw 5 wedding venues in total, but knew that Cain Manor was ‘the one’ as soon as they walked in to the oak-beamed Library and in to the triple-height Music Room. The light flooding in from the cathedral length windows, the barn-style beams and the elegant, intimate atmosphere were all exactly what the couple were looking for when it came to finding the perfect wedding venue for their Saturday wedding in Surrey.

Once the spring wedding date had been set, the couple could then start to focus the next 18 months on planning their perfect wedding. They purchased wedding insurance through John Lewis to give them peace of mind throughout their wedding planning process.

Wedding Day Fashion

Before opting for a beautiful laced gown, Julia visited a number of bridal boutiques and tried on close to 20 various wedding dress styles.

Finally, Julia fell deeply in love with a timeless lace wedding dress by Maggie Sottero and in terms of colour, opted to have ivory lace over soft blush which made the gown subtly match the rest of her dusky pink wedding colour scheme perfectly. Julia teamed her glamorous gown up with one of three veils that the bride-to-be had purchased due to her indecisiveness. And, on recommendation from a various friends and family members, Julia bought a pair of wedding shoes designed by Rainbow Club. Her braided wedding hair styled and beautiful bridal makeup was done by Suzanne Dusek, who also made the bridesmaids look gorgeous on the day. Julia knew that she wanted to wear her hair up and braided on her wedding day so grew her hair long for 18 months, ahead of her special occasion.

Julia and Adam’s bridal party consisted of two bridesmaids, a flower girl and 3 page boys; Laura, Chloe, Matilda, Henry, Zac and Ben. The bride imagined her best girls wearing 50s style swing dresses in a dusky pink shade so Julia’s mother did some searching online and found a little boutique in Brighton who were able to make perfect dresses to order. Multiple day trips down to the coast for measurements and fittings made for a great adventure and the end result was exactly how Julia wanted her bridesmaids to look.

The groom, his 4 (yes 4) best men, 2 ushers and his father all wore traditional tails from Dapper in Surbiton. To make himself look slightly different from the rest of the men, Adam’s waistcoat featured a slightly different pattern than the rest of the men.

The Big Day: Saturday 15th April, 2017

It had been a childhood dream of Julia’s to ride to her wedding in a Horse and Cart. Therefore, the bride decided to get ready at a hotel local to Cain Manor, so that she could fulfill her wish.

Julia booked Haydn Webb Carriages to meet her at the hotel and along with her mother, sister, niece and sister-in-law to be, the excited party enjoyed a moment they will never forget. Trotting through the Hampshire country lanes and along the picturesque drive, and receiving well wishes from generous strangers, was the perfect introduction to what was just about to be, the ultimate traditional wedding at Cain Manor.

At 1:30pm, Julia was ready to walk in to The Music Room, on the arm of her mother and accompanied by her bridal party. The Salieri String quartet began to play Pachelbel’s Canon as Julia and her mum took the first steps down the aisle in front of the 68 guests who had been invited to witness this very special occasion.

Julia carried a cascade-style bouquet of flowers filled with dusky pink coloured blooms; the floral theme continued in to The Music Room for the ceremony and were the highlight of the wedding reception tables. The couple hired Harper Partner Sonning Flowers to decorate their day (and wedding cake) with sensational florals.

After their first kiss as husband and wife the newlywed couple celebrated their marriage around the beautiful house and grounds of Cain Manor before inviting their guest back in to The Music Room for a carefully chosen wedding banquet.

Their wedding reception tables were named after family pets and all of the wedding stationery, including place cards, seating plan instructions, invitations, table names and more, had been created by a company found on Etsy, LoveFromStephanie.

After cutting through their three tiered M&S wedding cake, the couple were ready to kick-start the evening part of their wedding celebration. The Harper DJ played ‘Wings’ by Birdy as the newlywed couple dance their first dance together as husband and wife and instead of tossing her own bridal bouquet, Julia (with permission) tossed one of her bridesmaid’s bouquets so that her own bouquet could be laid on the grave of her grandparents.

Two months after their wedding, Julia and Adam flew of on their honeymoon to see the glorious Alps in Switzerland.

Wedding Planning Tips from the Bride

Having loved every moment of her wedding day, bride Julia shares some top tips on her own wedding planning experience. “Don’t feel like you should ‘just know’ when you find the right things for your wedding; you may well do, but if you need time to make decisions that’s fine, it’s your wedding day, they are important decisions – sleep on it! And, order 3 veils and 3 tiaras if you have to – ideally with free returns!”
