A June Wedding at Cain Manor

Jen and Michael matched up on an internet dating site five years ahead of their marriage but within a few weeks of knowing each other, had established countless links between their families and friends and were amazed that their paths hadn’t crossed before.

Jen shares the couple’s proposal story:
“During one of our early dates we went to watch the Jersey Boys theatre show in the west end. The show became significant in our relationship and we ventured back there a year later for our first anniversary to watch the show again.

It was approaching our three-year anniversary and we’d just returned from holiday to America and before we flew out Michael said to keep the Thursday free when we got back to the UK. We usually take it in turns to take the other out on a date night and I thought this one would be like no other.

I met him in Oxford Street and he suggested we go for something to eat before our ‘activity’. It ended up being the same restaurant we went three years ago when we first saw the Jersey Boys perform and after our meal, he said it was a short walk to the next part of our date.

Heading towards the Piccadilly Theatre, he said he’d got tickets for the show again and as we passed The Ham Yard Hotel, there was a Jersey Boys Tribute Act singing under the fairy lit trees in the courtyard. I was under the assumption that they were there as it was the final week of the show in the UK tour…but they weren’t. Michael had booked them as a surprise and as they started singing ‘Can’t take my eyes off you’ they made their way over to us and before I knew it Michael was down on one knee and as soon as I said yes, they burst into the chorus. We then went to watch the show and I missed the first half as I couldn’t take my eyes off my ring!! It was a really special evening.”

Choosing an exclusive use wedding venue

Within 5 minutes of being inside Cain Manor, Jen and Michael knew they wanted to get married there and quickly snapped up the last summer Saturday available in 2018. They had searched for wedding venues online and loved everything about the exclusive use wedding venue in Surrey; from the homely feel, beautiful grounds, bedrooms on-site and the huge windows in The Music Room.

Stella York Wedding Dress

After being in a Petts Wood bridalwear shop for just a few minutes, Jen knew she’d buy her dress from there. The team put Jen at ease and made her feel comfortable throughout her wedding dress shopping experience. The bride-to-be was after a dress with two looks; a traditional gown with sleeves for the day, and a strapless gown for the evening celebrations. It didn’t take Jen long to fall in love with a lace, Stella York wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline. Using the same lace, the shop managed to make Jen a jacket with sleeves, so that she could take it off later in the day.

The bride’s hair was styed by LJP Bridal and her makeup was done by Kimberly Smith; both suppliers were local to Cain Manor.

The Big Day: Saturday 23rd June, 2018

Jen and Michael booked the Hampshire Registry Office to marry them at 1:30pm on a sunny Saturday in June, 2018.

The bride, her bridesmaids and family arrived at Cain Manor at 11am and spent the next couple of hours getting ready in the spacious bridal suite before heading down to The Music Room to re-unite with Michael and 120 members of their friends and family.

Jen walked down the aisle with her father Steve, to the acoustic version of ‘Make You Feel My Love’ by Bob Dylan. Jen’s uncle and page boy did readings during the ceremony and love and laugher filled the room throughout the duration of the early afternoon. The couple couldn’t have been happier when they were pronounced Husband and Wife and celebrated with the drinks on the patio, overlooking the incredible views over the Surrey countryside.

Wedding photographer, Sammy Taylor Photography, took incredible photographs of the couple and their guests, in and around the country house wedding venue ahead of the delicious wedding banquet to follow.

Reception tables followed a rustic theme, with log slices sitting in the middle of each table, topped with pretty jam jars filled with roses and eucalyptus, with candles to add a touch of light. Jen’s cousin owns a florist, Posy & Wild, located in Westerham. The Posy & Wild team took care of all the floral arrangements throughout the wedding and they were truly perfect for a summer celebration.

Instead of traditional wedding favours, the couple opted to donate money to the haematology and Oncology departments at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Jen works as a nurse.

As a surprise for their guests, Jen and Michael had hired singing waiters who pretended to be Cain Manor staff for most of the evening. Everyone roared with laughter when they found out they were an act; singing, dancing and doing the conga turned out to be one of the most memorable moments of the whole day.

Light up LOVE letters made the perfect backdrop behind the wedding cake which Jen cleverly made herself. A further 30 guests joined the evening party and the story goes round in full circle, as the couple danced their first dance to ‘Can’t take my eyes off you’ – the same song that was playing during the moment of their engagement.

The newlywed couple enjoyed every moment of their exclusive use celebration at Cain Manor.
