How would you describe your floristry/design style and what makes you unique?

I trained at Wimbledon School of Art as a Theatre Designer which I feel has armed us with the skills to really design the space for weddings and events and not just what goes on the table. Creating the right atmosphere has always been our top priority and we do this very well. After working on theatre, TV and film sets for 12 years, I dreamt of being equally creative with flowers, so I started Lilys Flowers in 2004. My roots are deep in creativity and the results are top quality.
If I had to describe our style, I would say it is very loose and natural. Be it abundant, formal, informal or slightly wild it’s always in a considered way.

How would you describe your working style? Do you only focus on one wedding at a time or do you have a team of florists working on multiple events?

We are very focused on the couple and their experience is our main priority. We will only commit to two weddings at a time in order to prevent a ‘factory like experience’ and we always have a carefully chosen senior florist leading each wedding.

Do you offer specific packages or is it all bespoke?

We do have a number of packages that we have designed but most of our work is bespoke.

How far in advance should couples book you?

If we are available we could turn it around in two weeks however, we do get very booked up and have turned people away before now. Most people book us around 5 months before the wedding but we also have bookings two years in advance.

What information do you need from the couple before the wedding day?

If you have an idea of colour and style that is great but if you have no ideas about what you like at all then that’s fine too – it is our job to help you find your direction whilst you are planning your special day.

What is your favourite flower and why?

My favourite flower is the peonie. It is so beautiful and comes in so many varieties and colours but what makes it so special is that it is only available for a short window of time. I love seasons and when something is available all year round it takes the fun out of it all.

What are you expecting see more mainstream/more common in the next year or two?

I would say that the Boho bride look is going to be sticking around for a while and even more so with this moving possibly into a Romany/wild/gypsy kind of feel. Certainly colour is playing more of a part in this and in the wake of the royal wedding, wild flowers are growing in popularity. Outdoor ceremonies are very popular and I think they will remain so.

If you were getting married, how would you choose your wedding florist?

I would want to feel completely relaxed with the person that would be creating my flowers for me and know that they ‘get me’ and my style so I can just get excited about all the beautiful things we had chosen. Trusting that someone has the vision to pull off all the ideas is very important.
