Tell us a little about yourself?

I began my journey with photography around the age of 15, photographing with traditional film and spending hours in the darkroom developing my creations. I became a passionate teller of stories, photographing memories that truly matter, for people that really care. I studied and graduated with a Photography degree, after which I applied my skills and knowledge to work as a fashion and advertising photographer in London and around Europe. Combining this with my love of natural, documentary-based imagery led me towards pursuing wedding photography in a unique way. Through my experiences I developed a sense for capturing those fleeting moments often missed by other photographers, with a keen eye for details and emotion. I strive to deliver candid photography with elegance and intimacy.

It’s an absolute joy for me to photograph weddings! I would be honoured to tell your love story and capture those once in a lifetime moments.

How would you describe your wedding photography style and what makes you unique?

Indigo Images is about telling a photographic story of your day in the most natural way possible. We provide a documentary or reportage style of photography. Driven by an ambition to produce interesting, and emotive images of a wedding day while capturing those natural fleeting moments. Weddings are full of love, excitement, humour, anxiety, and joy. An abundance of emotion that is a delight to witness and capture as a photographer.

We try and blend into the background and be almost invisible so we are not influencing your day. Working around you while capturing all the moments and interaction that happen. We are thoughtful, considerate and sensitive to the monumental occasion and everyone involved.

How would you describe your working style?

Although professionalism is of utmost importance to us, we believe that taking a step back from directing too much of the day is the key to success. We want the images to reflect the mood and feel of the day. We watch, observe, capture. The only time you’ll see us directing is during the essential family group shots and the couples own private shoot that we construct to a degree, placing the couple in natural scenarios to create unforgettable images for and about the couple.

Do you shoot digitally or with film? Or both?

Digitally. We never put our cameras down; the way we shoot is so that we don’t miss a trick. Although we do miss the darkroom, changing a roll of film every 36 exposures would not be an efficient use of time. Using digital gives us far more flexibility and better image quality than film would ever provide.

What type of equipment do you use?

Ryo uses the latest Sony a9 cameras as they are compact, fast and completely silent.

They allow me to be as invisible and unobtrusive as possible, opening photographic opportunities that weren’t possible with cameras that came before it. Letting me blend in to the background and photograph in a way that you won’t notice that I’m there. I carry three cameras at one time to capture as many angles as I can.

What can you offer couples? Can they customise the package with you?

We have a collection of packages that we believe appeals to a wide range of couples, but if you require something that is not on there, then we will do our best to offer the perfect tailored package for your needs.

Do you include an engagement shoot?

Our engagement shoots are offered as a complimentary part of every package, It’s the perfect opportunity to get to know their photographer and get a feel of how their couple’s shoot will be on the big day.

We find that the couples that had an engagement shoot with us are far more relaxed. Having a photographer with you all day is a very personal thing. Our engagement shoots are a great way to ease you into having a photographer with you on your big day. The goal being getting you comfortable enough to be natural in front of the lens. It’s a fun way to get acquainted and the couple end up with some wonderful images. Also, we can take this opportunity to talk more in-depth about your day.

How long after the wedding will the couple receive their proofs?

Typically, around 3-6 weeks. We like to get the images to our couples as quickly as possible.

How far in advance should couples book you?

We get all kinds of time scales at Indigo. Some book us 24 months in advance, some, 12, 6, even 2. If we’re available, we shoot it. The sooner the better though!

What information do you need from the couple before the wedding day?

Prior the wedding day, we will send out a ‘Order of the Day’ form for the couples to complete. In this we get addresses, times, names of VIPs and a list of group shots, speeches etc. Then with a week to go we organise a phone call to go through logistics and final details, to be sure all our notes match and so we can prepare for the day.

What are you favourite trends?

Photography wise we don’t believe in trends. They come and go so quickly; we want to deliver something that is timeless and can be dug up by grandkids in the future and still be as cool and interesting as when we shot it. We look at the work of our favourite documentary photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson and still get tingles of inspiration. This is what we want to achieve! No filters, no over the top post-processing. Just beautiful, natural timeless photography.
In terms of wedding style, we can see that they are becoming far more casual, less black tie and more boho chic!

What are you expecting see more mainstream/more common in the next year or two?

We’re expecting more garden-party and festival inspired style weddings.

If you were getting married, how would you choose your wedding photographer?

The work should drive the search; you need to have a connection with the style of photography. It’s got to be a work of art that you can proudly hang on the wall or display around your home. Go for imagery that speaks to you and your own personal touch.
