I’ve been a makeup artist / hair stylist for nearly 13 years now, having specialised in bridal for around 8 years now this is my full time job which I absolutely love.
Previous to this I’ve run a makeup school teaching students the art of makeup / hair as well as working in some TV / film areas too.
I got married myself in July and since this I feel I really understand first hand how my clients feel on their wedding day and the emotions involved in the day.
I have 2 labradors, Hugo & Bertie who occupy the other half of my life!
I think it completely takes away the stress of having to think about getting yourself ready. The whole experience of having your hair and makeup done is relaxing and acts as a little pre wedding pamper session. It’s also nice to let someone else do your hair / makeup as sometimes they know better than you what will suit you.
I hold trials at my home in KT20 – they usually take around 2-3 hours for hair and makeup.
For hair – Bed Head, GHD, Wella, Osmo, Osis, L’Oréal and Moroccan oil
For makeup – YSL, Dior, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilbury, Nars and Tom Ford
I think about 12-18 months ahead of the wedding date leaves good time to ensure my availability. On the other hand I’m always happy to take on last minute jobs where I’m available
I had a mother of the bride cry once when she saw herself in the mirror, that was a pretty amazing reaction. In terms of a bride being happy, I guess the repeat business from clients speaks for their reactions to my makeup/hair styling I’ve done for them on their wedding days!
I think my favourite “trend” is probably the typical “Charlotte Tilbury” natural glam. This is what I would compare my own work too.
Hair wise I would say I like a chic yet classic style.
When I got married in July I had “natural glam” makeup focusing on the eyes and my hair I had a beautiful floral headband with S waves split in a middle parting. My dress was made by Emma Beaumont and was a beautiful modern a line style.
Rosie Huntington Whitely, as she has such stunning bone structure.
