Nick and Billy’s Wedding at Botleys Mansion

A Stylish Spring Wedding at Botleys Mansion

Nick and Billy originally met through Facebook back in 2009 and planned a face to face meeting at The Function Rooms in Hemel Hemstead shortly afterwards.

After getting to know each other for 6.5 years, the couple mutually decided that they wanted to get married and spend forever together. In late 2015, Nick’s mother was unfortunately diagnosed with terminal cancer. As Nick wanted his mother to be at the wedding, the couple decided to kick-start their wedding plans and told his mother that they were going to get married. Sadly, however, Nick’s mother passed away the very next day. The couple waited until the New Year before setting a date, choosing a venue and planning their perfect wedding.

Choosing Botleys Mansion

During their search for the dream wedding venue, Nick and Billy only looked at 3 locations in total before making their decision.

The couple loved the grandeur of Botleys Mansion in Surrey. The amazing atrium and the fact that they could host their ceremony, banquet and evening party in one building seemed just perfect. The couple admit to knowing that Botleys Mansion was the venue they wanted to host their wedding, from the moment they drove up the long, winding approach.

One of the boxes that their chosen wedding venue needed to tick, was the ability to allow a fireworks display at the end of the evening. The couple were delighted to find out that Botleys Mansion was able to fulfill their requirement.

Nick and Billy found Harper’s proprietary online wedding planner easy to use and update during the run up to their day; having all of their wedding details in one place made their wedding planning experience much more enjoyable.

The Big Day: 21st April, 2017

Nick and Billy were married on a Friday in The Green Room at Botleys Mansion at 2pm.

The couple walked in to their ceremony together to a string quartet playing Pachelbel Canon in D Major. The couple walked down the aisle with Billy’s mother and sister Jenny, along with Nick’s father and sister Charlotte.

2 readings were read during the ceremony; The Lovely Other Dinosaur and a segment from Winnie the Pooh. After saying vows in front of their 65 wedding guests, the newlyweds headed back down the aisle to the string quartet, Niche London, playing ‘Can you Feel the Love Tonight’ from the musical, The Lion King.

After their beautiful wedding ceremony, the newlywed couple and their guests headed outside to enjoy a celebratory drink. While guests enjoyed mingling near the fountain, Nick and Billy spent some time with their wedding photographer, Nicholas Hill, wandering around the grounds at Botleys Mansion and soaking up the atmosphere of the Surrey countryside. It wasn’t long before guests were invited back in to the mansion to start the wedding banquet part of the day.

Nick and Billy wanted to ensure that their circular wedding banquet tables were kept simple and un-cluttered. They therefore decided to have floral centerpieces on their tables, which were each named after roller coasters that they had been on together in the past. Nick created the table plan which featured all of their guests riding in coaster trains.

For wedding favours, each guest was given a heart shaped lollipop which tasted of champagne or cotton candy and guests dined on a carefully selected menu whilst listening to romantic music played once again by the string quartet, Niche London; they were even able to put in song requests.

A further 30 guests joined the newlyweds during their evening reception. The couple cut through a 3 tiered, lemon sponge wedding cake, created by Nick’s aunt. It had been designed to look like a log flume that you might find at an amusement park.

As Billy is a postman, the couple thought it would be funny and appropriate to hire Harper’s post box as the perfect location for guests to drop their cards and well wishes.

To end their wonderful celebration, Nick, Billy and their wedding guests were treated to a spectacular firework display, put on by Illusion Fireworks. Their guests haven’t stopped talking about this unforgettable moment of the day.

The Honeymoon

Instead of choosing a traditional wedding gift list, the couple asked guests to contribute to a honeymoon fund. The day after their super stylish wedding at Botleys Mansion in Surrey, the couple flew to Ibiza for a mini-moon and stayed in an amazing spa hotel for some rest and relaxation. The couple will celebrate their marriage by heading off on a longer honeymoon to Orlando later in the year.

Final thought from the couple

The newlywed couple said that they couldn’t praise the team at Botleys Mansion enough for their help on the day. “Lisa, Guy and Sarah made our day run so smoothly” said Nick. The couple also advise future Harper couples to “stop and take in as much as you can”. They truly had a wonderful wedding day at Botleys Mansion.
