A dream Autumn Wedding at Botleys Mansion

Hannah and James planned an elegant civil wedding ceremony and reception at Botleys Mansion in Surrey during late October 2016.

A Romantic Proposal

Hannah and James met through mutual friends who were also dating at the time. Their first date took place at the Odeon Cinema in Guildford and the rest, they say, is history.

After sharing a relationship for a decade, James knew that it felt right to ask Hannah to be his wife. James prepared a surprise romantic picnic, with pink champagne, strawberries and a single red rose. He told Hannah that they were going for quick lunch at a restaurant in Farnham town centre, but before the couple got to town, James stopped at Farnham Park and Castle grounds. James then surprised Hannah with a romantic picnic and as soon as he laid the picnic blanket out, he bent down on one knee! Hannah was so surprised that she didn’t even say yes properly! The couple celebrated their engagement by going to a local pub and then spent the rest of the day sharing their exciting news with family and friends.
The newly engaged couple spent just over 2 years planning their dream wedding at Botleys Mansion in Surrey.

Finding a Dream Wedding Dress

When it came to finding her dream wedding dress, Hannah went shopping with her two bridesmaids and a close family friend.

After trying on a number of different wedding dresses, from numerous designers, Hannah decided to try on an ivory, lace, A-line gown with a reasonably long trail, ¾ length lace sleeves and detailed embellished on the belt, designed by Essense of Australia. She knew that this gown was ‘the one’ by the reaction on her friends faces when she came out of the dressing room.
As she wanted to remain comfortable throughout her wedding day, Hannah opted to wear simple, white, flat wedding shoes with a hint of glitter to add a touch of glam. When it came to her bridal makeup, Hannah hired Bryony Holloway; her hair, styled by Sharon Roberts, was tied in a lovely up-do with a beautifully embellished slide and veil.

Choosing Botleys Mansion

Hannah and James viewed 4 wedding venues during their search for ‘the one’.

Aside from viewing Botleys Mansion, the couple also looked at Cain Manor, Harper’s luxury barn-style wedding venue on the border of Surrey and Hampshire, but after finding it a bit too small for their requirements, they fell in love with Botleys Mansion. Botleys Mansion is classic, elegant and ticked all the boxes that were on Hannah and James’s wedding venue ‘must-have’ list. They were keen to book a wow-factor wedding venue – and this became instantly apparent when they entered the large gates on the approach to Botleys Mansion. The couple chose to get married in October, due to the fact that they had met in the month of October, 11 years previously. They knew that choosing an October wedding date may not result in the best weather, but they knew that Botleys Mansion would be perfect for taking indoor photographs should the weather turn bad. As it turned out, that the 29th of October, 2016 was a lovely day and the couple were able to take advantage of both the inside and the beautiful grounds at Botleys Mansion for their romantic wedding photography.

The Big Day, 29th October, 2016

Hannah and James invited 77 wedding guests to witness their wedding ceremony in The Green Room at Botleys Mansion in Surrey.

Hannah walked down the aisle with her father to the sounds of the Piano version of Canon in D by Pachelbel. A couple of readings were read, the couple exchanged their vows, wedding rings and their first kiss as husband and wife. Hannah will forever have the memory of her mother and grandmother with her, as the couple chose to have Hannah’s wedding band handmade to include the diamonds from their engagement rings.
After their confetti shot, which took place on the grand, stone staircase outside Botleys Mansion, the newlywed couple and their guests enjoyed Prosecco and some canapés in the sunshine before heading back in to the Mansion to commence their wedding banquet. The couple had arranged a ‘Pimp your Prosecco’ cart set up for guests to enjoy as well as a photo booth to keep guests of every age entertained
Their reception tables were decorated with incredible floral arrangements created by Sonning Flowers. All of their flowers were a mixture of roses, freesia, hydrangea, double lisianthus, gypsophila, white oriental lillies, spray roses, antirihnum and mix of grey and green foliage. The wedding reception tables looked simply divine and the flowers were displayed in a mixture of tall trumpet vases and storm lanterns with a ring of floral detail surrounding them. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of white hydrangea and Hannah opted for a stunning, hand-tied bouquet featuring a variety of autumnal blooms.
When it came to naming their wedding reception tables, the couple decided to name them after places that were special to the couple. They included Botleys Mansion for the top table, along with the name of their first house, the locations that they travelled to on their stag and hen parties, Farnham Castle where the couple began their wedding story, plus, the pub that they celebrated their engagement party.
For their wedding banquet menu, Hannah and James had previously chosen a selection of delicious dishes to serve their guests. As a starter, the couple opted for a red onion tart; for the main, the sticky Hampshire beef went down a treat, and for dessert, the couple chose a blackberry and apple crumble.
When it came to choosing individual wedding favours, Hannah and James bought a selection of pins from the British Heart Foundation and asked guests to wear them on the day, in memory of Hannah’s mother who sadly passed away 10 years prior. The couple also made personalised Tic Tac’s that had ‘Mint-to-Be’ on them.
For the evening section, the couple invited a further 35 wedding guests to celebrate with them. The bride tossed her bouquet and it fell in to the arms of her friend Sian from University – much to the disappointment of many of Hannah’s girlfriends. During the evening, the couple cut through a gorgeous, four-tier, navy and white coloured wedding cake which had been designed by Alexander Taylor Cakes in Guildford. The navy tiers were filled with a Ferrero Rocher flavour and the white tiers were flavoured with fresh strawberries and white chocolate. The couple hired the Harper DJ to keep their guests entertained throughout the evening, and the newlywed couple danced their first dance to ‘Chasing Cars’ by Snow Patrol.

The Bridal Party

Hannah chose her sister and two forever-friends to be her bridesmaids on the big day. The girls went on a bridesmaid dress hunt to Westfield in London and ended up buying the first dresses that they tried on. The pretty navy blue dresses featured lace, cap-sleeves and pretty silk bands around the waist. James chose 2 best men and his three brothers were his ushers. Their dark navy, Ted Baker suits were all hired Moss Bros.

The Honeymoon

Instead of opting to have a traditional wedding gift list, Hannah and James decided to book their honeymoon through Kuoni and asked guests to kindly contribute towards it. Right after the wedding, Hannah and James went on a mini-moon to The Forest of Dean where they stayed in a romantic log cabin featuring their own hot-tub. The newlyweds will go on their dream honeymoon to Sri Lanka and the Maldives in early 2017.
When asked if they had any advice to give future Harper couples, Hannah and James suggested that you make sure you take a few moments and to look around and take everything in on the day, as it will pass by so quickly! “Take a moment just the two of you on your own, even if it’s just 10 minutes!”
