The Perfect Country House Wedding at Cain Manor in June 2016

Phillippa and James booked Cain Manor for their wedding without having seen it in person, but their country house wedding was everything they could have imagined and more!

The Proposal

Phillippa and James both live in Dubai and met via the dating app Tinder. After falling in love and realising that they wanted to be together forever, James decided to secretly go out and buy the engagement ring that Phillippa had pointed out several months earlier. Much to her surprise, when the couple were holidaying in Venice, James bent down on one knee whilst on a gondola and asked Phillippa to marry him right there on the Grand Canal. Phillippa of course said yes and the couple travelled on to Florence to celebrate their engagement.

The Wedding Dress

It didn’t take Phillippa long to find ‘the one’ when it came to her wedding dress search. In fact, she fell in love with the very first dress that she tried on.

The fabulous, A-line design by Pronovias was adorned with delicate lace and crystals and featured an elegant V at the front and a plunging V at the back. The bride-to-be fell in love with the shape, the beautiful lace and the elegant sparkle of the crystals. The gown had incredible movement and fitted Phillippa perfectly.
Phillippa teamed her dream wedding dress up with a pair of wedding shoes by Rainbow Club that she’d purchased online and when it came to her bridal beauty, she hired Beckie Packham from Beckie’s Bridal Hair to create the perfect up-do. The bride opted for lots of loose curls pinned up to sit just on her neckline with volume at the top and sides. A beautiful vintage crystal clip at the back of her hair style and a tiara on top for sparkle completed her bridal style. Phillippa was brave enough to do her own wedding day make-up and it looked absolutely flawless.

Choosing the Wedding Venue

Phillippa and James booked Cain Manor as their wedding venue without ever having seen it in real life.
As they both lived in Dubai, travelling to the UK to visit wedding venues wasn’t going to be easy – so they did a lot of wedding venue searches online and just knew instantly that Cain Manor was the perfect venue for them. They booked a date and paid their deposit over the phone, crossing their fingers hoping that it looked as good as it did online. When they had time to fly over to the UK to sort out their wedding arrangements, their visit to Cain Manor was everything that Phillippa and James could have dreamt for and more; they were absolutely delighted with their choice. The beautiful setting, green surroundings, vast landscape and fabulous architecture of the building were truly stunning and was the ultimate setting for their country house wedding.
Phillippa and James found Harper’s online wedding planner super helpful, seeing as they were techinically planning their wedding from abroad. They found it easy to communicate with the Wedding Planning Management team and they felt confident that their wedding would go without a hitch when it came to the actual day.

The Big Day: 10th June, 2016

Phillippa and James got married in front of the stunning cathedral style windows in The Music Room at Cain Manor on the 10th June, 2016.

The bride walked down the aisle with her father to the sounds of Etta James ‘At Last’ before the couple said their vows in front of 71 guests. A reading called ‘A Fable of Love and Time’ was read by a friend and the couple were able to celebrate their marriage with a glass of bubbles within the beautiful gardens that surround Cain Manor. A vintage country theme with subtle shades of pink and cream was apparent throughout the day. The chairs lining the aisle had been decorated with beautiful floral arrangements featuring the same flowers that the bride carried in her bouquet; hydrangea, garden roses, astilbe and corn flower. All of the floral arrangements, centre pieces, bouquets and button holes had been created by Phillippa’s godmother who does floristry as a hobby.

At their menu tasting session at Cain Manor earlier in the year, Phillippa and James had chosen to serve their guests a smoked salmon starter, followed by sticky beef for a main and a blueberry and almond cake for dessert. It was all absolutely delicious!

Reception tables in The Music Room had been decorated with tall floral displays placed on mirrors with tea light candles to add that touch of sparkle. The table names were mounted on handmade cork stands and each glass had a paper lace hummingbird resting on the lip.  Instead of individual wedding favours, Phillippa and James set up a box full of Wispa bars next to their display table, with a sign that read “Wispa is our favourite treat, write a note and take a sweet”.

For their wedding cake, the couple ordered a trio of simple, white iced cakes from M&S but had them decorated with a dusty pink ribbon and some hand-tied silk flowers which sat in clusters between each tier. The couple cut through their cake before performing a pre-rehearsed, choreographed ballroom style dance to L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole. The couple had practiced their first dance over and over again before the big day, but managed to pull it off perfectly on the night. A wedding band called The Martinis kept the wedding party on the dance floor throughout the evening.

The Bridal Party

Phillippa chose her sister, Hayley, to be her Maid of Honour. Hayley found her dress in the UK and called Phillippa on Skype in Dubai to show her the dress whilst she was in the shop to see if the bride-to-be approved. The long, floaty, dusty pink dress with a touch of sparkle in the waist band was a winner and Hayley was delighted with her choice.
There was no set rule when it came to what the groom and his father wore. James didn’t have an official best man so his groomswear was flexible. His father held the rings during the ceremony and gave the best man’s speech during the wedding reception, but both James and his father were comfortable wearing suits that they’d chosen themselves.

The Honeymoon

To celebrate their marriage, newlyweds Phillippa and James went on an exciting journey to South Africa, visiting Cape Town for a city break and to see some spectacular tourist sights, followed by a trip to Botswana for a wonderful safari adventure and then finally on to the Seychelles for some much needed relaxation.
