Tell us a little about yourself?

I began my Makeup and Hair career 14 years ago in the Film and TV Industry. Friends of friends then started asking me to do their hair and makeup for their big day. I instantly got hooked on Weddings. I absolutely love spending one of the most important days of a woman’s life with them and making them look and feel the best version of themselves. I am very lucky to say that I love – love my job, it has taken me all over the world and I have had the chance to work with some of the best Photographers and Celebrities around as well as visiting some incredible venues. Gemma Sutton ltd was launched in 2010, Winner of the National Wedding Awards 2015 for Best Bridal Makeup Artist and Winner of the Best Makeup Artist for 2014 for London and the South East. Our fully trained elite pro team and myself look after 100’s and 100’s of beautiful brides during the year. Whether it is a Boho – Vintage – Glamorous – Natural or a Shabby Chic Bridal style, the GS Pro Team or myself will create the perfect look and style for you.

Why should a bride use a makeup-artist?

A wedding day is one of the most important days of a woman’s life, so it is important that you look and feel the best version of yourself. That is what I am trained to do – keeping up to date with the latest bridal looks and styles and best products on the market. It is a day where you can sit back and relax with a glass of champagne in your hand while i take care of the rest.

Do you offer a trial and how long does this usually take?

A bridal trial is essential to create a perfect wedding style just for you – Here Gemma or a member of the GS Pro Team will go though different looks – trends and styles to match the theme of your wedding. If you already have some ideas for your makeup/hair, bring some photos/magazine cuttings with you to show us. At your trial Gemma or a member of the GS pro team will make sure that you don’t have any sensitivities to any products used, and are happy with the look and feel of your makeup/hair to fit in with the style of wedding and your personality. Gemma also has an array of headpieces and accessories that you can try on during your trial. Your trial will last up to two hours and members of your bridal party may join you if you wish. Please allow an extra time for each additional person requiring a trial. After your trial we will go though all wedding day information with you making sure timings/address etc. is all correct so that every thing runs smoothly on the morning of your big day.

What brands do you use?

Our makeup kits are full of the latest products from some of the leading brands in the industry including Shu Uemura, MAC, Bobbi Brown Tom Ford, Dior. and other leading professional brands, including a large variety of professional synthetic and natural hair make-up brushes. These are cleaned after each client. Strict hygiene practices are maintained and disposable applicators are used where necessary. Hair products include Toni & Guy, Wella and L’Oreal.

How far in advance should a bride book you?

We get very booked up quite quickly so as soon as you have a date – book us in. All trials should take place about three months before your wedding date. We can arrange your trial as soon as you have decided on your dress, colour scheme and any other details that are important to you. Having your trial as soon as you have decided to have a make-up/hair artist is another thing ticked off your to do list! If you’d prefer, you can have your trial nearer to your wedding, we recommend leaving it no later than 6 weeks before your big day.

What is the best reaction you have had from a bride and her bridal party after doing their wedding day make-over?

A lot of my brides say they have never looked so good. I love spending time with all my beautiful brides on the morning of their big day. Their reaction when they look in the mirror, and at their bridesmaids, is why i love my job so much.

What are you favourite trends?

I love the big bridal hairstyles as this lets me be a little more creative adding more false hair.

What are you expecting see more mainstream/more common in the next year or two?

A lot more of our brides are going bigger and bolder on their makeup and hair more hairpieces and eye lashes are being used. A bridal look as if you have just popped out of a glossy magazine.

If you were getting married, what look would you go for and why?

That is such a hard question to answer and a question I get asked all the time. If it wasn’t at Botleys Mansion I think I would have to run off somewhere and get married on the beach with not a lot of fuss. This doesn’t mean my hair and makeup wouldn’t look as glamorous as possible.
